Caro's Letters
((It is suggested you read Volund's Story before you continue reading this!))
Marcus kept his expression blank while he took a sealed letter addressed to Lord Volund Decentius from Lady Caro's slender hand. Secretly, his heart sank to the depths of despair as she appeared to be giving into to the Imperial Lord's uncivilized demands. Normally the young beauty would seek the council of her most trusted guardian on important matters such as these. However, much to Marcus' dismay, this was the first time Sabrina even remotely mentioned Lord Decentius since his unannounced visit yesterday.
Sabrina forced a smile and simply stated, “Marcus, you're the only one I trust to handle these urgent deliveries.” It was then she produced a second letter, this one had parents names inked across the envelope in exquisite handwriting. Relief washed over Marcus as he realized she was informing her parents of the Lord's ultimatum. “Make haste, we haven't much time I fear...” as she thrust the second letter towards him. With a nod Marcus took the second letter, “I'll have my steed readied and leave immediately,” he paused in his steps to offer her reassurance, “Don't worry, I will not fail you.” He would not soon forget her somber expression. |
(only the recipient of the letters would be privy to the contents) Lord Decentius, I would like to humbly extend an invitation to the Ivory Estate so that we may discuss important matters regarding your recent visit. As I feel it pertinent we are not interrupted, I will secure our privacy for the duration of your visit. Arrive at your earliest convenience, the guards will be expecting you. May the Eights guide you. Best Regards, Sabrina Caro |
A Rather Somber Afternoon
((written by the player of Volund Decentius))
18th of Last Seed, 2E 585
Sun had set, the sunsets of the Colovian Highlands were always a beautiful sight. Folk foreign and native to the highlands always fell in love with these Colovian Sunsets. The Highlands were also a place where a man could be alone with his thoughts. Yet the nobility of Cyrodiil bronzed their skin alone with these Highlands. A keyword, alone.
House Caro, old, noble, and proud was alone. The Lady and Lord Caro brought into this world beautiful children, perhaps the most famous of them Lady Sabrina Caro. She lived away from all the war and fighting in the Ivory Estate a summer palace of beauty. Disconnected and untouched, the lady lives in peace with her guard and their dogs.
It was the fateful day of the 18th of Last Seed in which a lone traveler moved to her doorstep. The Sentries on the rampart's spotted the traveler. It was a man clad in Imperial plate aboard and reigning what appeared to be a chariot.
The Sentry that spotted him called out "Look's like we've got someone, on a horse, by himself by the looks of it." Letting the rest of the Caro guard know that they had perhaps an interloper, intruder, or guest on their doorstep.
The Sentry said "You there, halt! Stop and state yer purpose here. You tread on the grounds of Lady Sabrina and Isobel Caro."
The traveler, in turn, stepped off of the chariot. He said "Let me in, I'm here to collect my reward on the bounty of those bandit's plaguing these land's so long ago. My name is Volund Decentius, Baron of Aspern, and I have come to speak to your Lady along with collecting my reward."
Marcus Aenea, a guardsman, former veteran, and a man filled with love for his lady heard what was said. He took a chance, gulped as he prayed to the divines that what he was about to do was not a mistake as he ordered that the door be opened without bothering to check who it was.
In he came, Volund. Moving with steps of purpose, the metal man faced Marcus and despite all of his years serving in the legions, watching over the Caro's children, and ensuring their safety he felt rather unsettled. This was a man who was supposed to have been dead or so he at least thought. It sent shivers down his spine and he said "Right, right this way then, I trust you won't do anything stupid?" he said more to himself than to Volund.
The Warlord nodded in return "Of course, I won't do anything stupid I'm only here to talk to the woman, now take me to here so that I may leave sooner."
Hearing that, Marcus felt reassured and able to catch a breath. The next one he caught would put them on the path. They would walk on the beautiful grounds, showing what it was like. Straight from a fairytale, the grass was lush and green, the pond's with water so clean and clear. Butterflies fluttered almost everywhere as Marcus led Volund down the path close to the shrines. They made their way to the memorial garden, in which she sat.
For a few moments, the Warlord would face her, take time to view this woman, size her up like a predator with its prey. He had thoughts when it came to her by just her appearance and upon hearing her voice, he felt almost seduced immediately. But he forced himself to remain who he was, as he felt a pang of shame that there was a woman home waiting for him.
As Marcus watched the two speak, it would seem that all he could hear was the sound of something ringing in his ear. The word's muffled, everything felt slow in motion. All he saw right now was Sabrina and how her eyes, those warm and beautiful eyes of hers light up. It brought a smile to his face that slowly faltered when he saw hers falter, the warlord's back to him, he couldn't see or feel what was being said. Only he could see her face and the blank look as the metal man continued speaking to her.
The man finished and as if fate decreed it, the ringing sound stopped. He said "Now, I'll take my leave." Gulping again and feeling rather bland, Marcus quietly padded back to the gates and let the Warlord take his leave. He went back to Sabrina to watch over her again
He didn't even notice that the dogs were by, and all of what had occurred had them barking at the metal man. He grabbed one and calmed but stared at his lady, his love for her was undying and yet so unknown. He thought it was perhaps better this way as he was just a simple commoner. He looked at and longed for her wishing that he knew what the Warlord said before he had taken his leave.
And so, Volund was now outside of the walls of the Ivory Estate. His words clear, he knew for sure that woman had heard him. He re-boarded the chariot and headed home, leaving behind a free Caro Estate. The Sun's gaze in front of him as if it were staring at the sin he was to soon commit.
